The highland loft - elgin, illinois

Kelsey and Steven said their "I Do's" in front of all of their friends and family in the middle of July, and let me tell you - I felt genuinely close to this couple. We had met a little under a year before, as they began to choose their dream team to help make their wedding dreams a reality. Almost instantly, Kelsey and I hit it off as if we had been friends long before they got engaged. Kelsey's mom also became more of a friend to me than just the "Mother of the Bride" as well. We all worked so well together, that when the day of their wedding arrived, I felt like I was greeting my closest friends.

The day of the wedding was nothing short of fun - the girls got to get ready in the the new apartment that was built inside of their venue, The Highland Loft. They started their morning with mimosas, and when I walked into the apartment, it was giggles galore! Hair and make up were just finishing up, and the girls were about to get into their beautiful dresses.

Kelsey and Steven opted to stay the traditional route, and not share a first look between the two of them before the ceremony, however they did each do first looks with family members - Kelsey with her brothers, and her dad, her uncle and her grand-dad, and Steven with his mom, grandma, dad and stepmom. All of these moments were oh-so-sweet, and special in their own ways.

My favorite part right before their ceremony was Kelsey's brother's band - they played live music, and while there were some more musical pieces that are standard at weddings, they did through in some Harry Potter, Disney, and other familiar tunes, which made my 5-year old heart extremely happy. When I said something to Kelsey about it later, her response was "I told him to play anything Disney". And boy, they sure did! It was definitely one of the many things that I think Kelsey and Steven will remember for a lifetime.

As soon as they were married and were walking down the aisle, I was greeting them - literally bouncing up and down with joy - as they came to greet me. (lets be honest - I probably freaked them out just a little - what photographer gets THAT excited that a couple is married?! The answer? It's me. I am that photographer - #sorrynotsorry).

The reception was filled with laughter and dancing, all through the night as friends and family gathered around the newly-weds to wish them well in their new life as a Mr. and Mrs. By the time I left, Kelsey and Steven both hugged me tight, thanking me for the work I had done.

Kelsey and Steven, I wish you both nothing but the best for your life together and I can't wait to follow along with you to see where life takes you. It was an honor capturing your wedding day!
